Letter from the President
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year from the BBR Association!
I’m up at the lake in the week between Christmas and New Years, and decided to take this moment to reflect on our land, and to give you a heads up that your membership fees will be due in early January (reminder email to come).
I was out snowshoe hiking in the hills this morning, and was struck by how calm and peaceful the trees are. They don’t know anything about the massive 50% property evaluation hike we were all stunned by, and they know even less about the (presumably) upcoming trip to the polls to decide our next Prime Minister. They just stand there silently, allowing the wind to whistle through their branches, and feeling themselves rotate past the sun. And they invite us to slow down, let go of our busy lives for a few moments, and breathe in some oxygen so we can breathe out the carbon dioxide they need.
Your association board will soon be planning 2025 … we’ll put the Green Fund money we got from LaPeche to good use (enhanced water testing), throw the annual summer picnic, and continue to plan improvements like 2024’s convex traffic mirrors (which aren’t just for Grant to admire himself in – they actually do help you see what’s ahead). All in all, protecting our lakes and building community is what we’re all about – look for more details throughout the year.
All the best in 2025!
David Aitken
