Let’s keep our lakes healthy!

We are reminding everyone to follow best practices to prevent the fast growth of aquatic plants and algae blooms by preventing the leaching of nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus from people’s properties into the lakes. These nutrients can come from fertilizers, cleaning products, and detergents. The preventative measures that we can take to keep our lakes healthy include: avoiding fertilizers, only using phosphate-free detergents, and cleaning  products, maintaining a natural shoreline to reduce run-off, and keeping our septic system in good condition so that its contents don’t leak into the lake.

Also, care should be taken to thoroughly clean, drain, and dry our boats, paddle boards, and watercraft that are moved between bodies of water in order to avoid the spread of invasive plants and aquatic species.
